In the inexperienced group of this year’s Celebrating Shepperton Through Art exhibition, one painting stood out as both a crowd-pleaser and a worthy winner.
Local Gillingham FC supporter Jim Redpath captured hearts with his vibrant depiction of James’ Butcher Shop. What made the piece so memorable wasn’t just the faithful rendering of a beloved local landmark, but the playful twist Jim added: the shop front was painted in Gillingham Blue, proudly echoing the colours of his football club.
And then came the detail that had everyone smiling — an opportunist dog caught mid-snack, happily munching on sausages! This cheeky addition gave the painting a warmth and humour that resonated with visitors, blending everyday village life with the quirks of community spirit.
