Two Gills season ticket holders, James Cruttwell and his good friend Tom Jasper, will be walking from Priestfield Stadium to Wembley on Monday 6th November 2023 to raise funds for the SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity) and Sands United.
They will be joined on the walk by Nick, who sadly lost his son Oscar, and is the reason the group are walking to raise funds. Fellow Gills fan James Barnes will also be walking with the group for part of the journey.
Nick and his partner Sarah suffered the tragic loss of their son, Oscar, who was born stillborn at 29 weeks in July of 2015. Sands supports anyone who has been effected by the loss of a child, during or shortly after birth.
Nick will be walking to raise funds for the football team he plays for, Sands Utd Kent. The team helped Nick and Sarah get through their stages of grief and without this outlet and avenue of support we are not sure where Nick would be today.
The distance from Priestfield to Wembley Stadium is approximately 42 miles and could take up to 17 hours to walk.
James told us: "Baby loss is still a very taboo subject and we hope that by dedicating this walk to Nick, Sarah, and Oscar that we will be doing our bit to break the stigma and to raise awareness of a tragic subject.'
The walk is for two great organisations. If you would like to donate, you can do so via a Just Giving page here. Further details on SANDS can be viewed here.
We wish James, Jasper, Nick and Sarah every success with the walk to Wembley.
