When Southend United visit Priestfield on Saturday 5th October 2019, a group of fans will be walking the 32 miles from Roots Hall to the Priestfield Stadium. The walk, which is part of the Southend United Supporters Society (Shrimpers Trust) charity fund raising, will raise funds for the Little Havens Children's Hospice.

The Shrimpers Trust is the largest supporters' group within Southend United Football Club. Through supporter membership and fund raising they provide sponsorship to Southend United's Youth Academy and will also donate money for other worthwhile causes in and around the Club.

They are also keen to do whenever they can support local charities. As part of this they have organised the charity walk to Gillingham. The group will be leaving Roots Hall at 11pm on Friday 4th October. They expect to arrive at Priestfield at approximately 12.30pm the following day.

Gillingham FC have kindly offered the fans hospitality on arrival and they have asked to do a bucket collection at the stadium. It is currently unclear if this will be just in the away end, or in all areas of the stadium. If you see the fans please donate generously for which is a truly worthy cause.

Little Havens Hospice provide care to children and young people aged from birth to 19 years old, who have life limiting or life threatening conditions. Through its support groups it also provides essential services to parents and siblings to help them through such difficult times. Residential and community services extend across the county of Essex, including respite and end-of-life care.

If anyone would like to make a donation the Shrimpers Trust have a Journey to the Gills Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/journeytothegills - All of the money raised will go directly to Little Havens. It really is a case of every little helps.

We wish Lesley Hicks and all the Journey to the Gills every success as the walk from Essex to Kent in time for the big match. Further information on Little Haven Children's Hospice can be viewed at https://www.havenshospices.org.uk
